St. Louis Blues Player Seeks to Help Homeless Animals
ST. LOUIS (AP) - A new foundation formed by St. Louis Blues player David Backes and his wife seeks to provide a helping hand for abandoned homeless animals.
Plans for the Athletes for Animals foundation were announced Monday in St. Louis. Officials say the organization will involve athletes from several sports who will lend support, volunteer at shelters, make donations and attend fundraisers toward the goal of decreasing the homeless pet population.
The Blues say the organization already has support from several professional baseball, football and hockey players.
Money raised by Athletes for Animals will be made available through grants to animal welfare organizations across the country.
