CLAYTON (AP) - St. Louis County health officials are blaming the heat wave for the death of a 72-year-old Northwoods woman.

The county medical examiner's office said Monday that the woman's home had an air conditioner that was not functioning. It is the first confirmed heat death in the county since the scorching hot weather began last month.

The victim's name was not released. Her body was found on Friday. The medical examiner's office says the temperature inside her house was 97 degrees and her body temperature was 106 degrees.

A spokesman says 162 patients have been treated for heat-related symptoms in the county since June 28, including 30 who have been hospitalized.
