St. Louis County Budget Proposes Park Closures, 175 Job Cuts
CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) -- St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley's budget proposal for the coming year calls for eliminating 175 jobs and closing 20 parks and other facilities.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/ueHPVQ ) reports that the parks slated for closure include Lone Elk, George Winter and Fort Bellefontaine, along with three county operated swimming pools.
In another cost-cutting move, the county would stop plowing subdivision streets in unincorporated areas when it snows 2 inches or less. Dooley's budget projects that would save $277,000 in overtime, fuel and salt.
All told, Dooley estimates the cuts would save the county $10 million.
