St. Louis firefighters rescued after fall through stairwell
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Two St. Louis firefighters are apparently OK after falling through the stairwell of a burning home.
Firefighters were called to an unoccupied home in south St. Louis before 7 a.m. Thursday. The two firefighters were inside the home when the stairwell gave in, causing them to fall about 10 feet into the basement. They were rescued and were being evaluated for injuries.
A third firefighter was also hurt after being shocked after coming into contact with live wires. Hospitalization was not required.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, but neighbors reported lightning strikes nearby during an overnight storm.
