St. Louis Homeowner Kills Burglary Suspect
ST. LOUIS - Police in St. Louis say an off-duty detective shot and killed a teenager trying to break into his home.
KMOV-TV reports the detective is a five-year veteran of the Beverly Hills Police Department in north St. Louis County. He's been placed on administrative leave while the shooting at his St. Louis home is investigated.
Police say the detective heard banging at the back door of his home Tuesday evening and saw at least three people entering the house. The officer fired his personal weapon, hitting one suspect in the head.
The teenager died at the scene. Police say the other suspects ran away.
St. Louis police Capt. Michael Sack says there have been other burglaries in the neighborhood, and investigators believe the detective's home was chosen at random.
