St. Louis Man Admits Making Counterfeit Movies
ST. LOUIS (AP) - A St. Louis man who possessed thousands of copies of counterfeit and bootleg movies has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of copyright infringement.
The U.S. Attorney's office said 46-year-old Saidou Dia also pleaded guilty to failing to register as a sex offender during an appearance Monday in federal court.
Prosecutors said federal agents searched Dia's home, a business called Dia's House of Beauty and other locations in May and seized nearly 6,500 counterfeit movies.
They also seized 10 towers, each capable of burning multiple DVD copies at once, as well as counterfeit movie labels and packaging materials.
Dia was convicted in Ohio of unlawful sexual with a minor in 2005. Prosecutors said he failed to register as a sex offender when he later moved to St. Louis.
