St. Louis man gets 21 years for drug deal death
ST. LOUIS (AP) - A 23-year-old St. Louis man already imprisoned on drug charges has been sentenced to more than 21 years in federal prison in connection with an Illinois woman's drug-related shooting death.
Christopher Channel was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in St. Louis to 254 months in prison on cocaine distribution and firearm possession charges connected to 40-year-old Carrie Henderson-Shaw's death in January 2010 on an Interstate 55 ramp in the city. He had pleaded guilty in July.
Federal prosecutors say Channel sold crack cocaine to Henderson-Shaw at a South Broadway gas station and then shot the Columbia, Illinois woman as she attempted to drive away without paying the full amount owed.
His attorneys had argued that Channel did not actually shoot the woman.
