ST. LOUIS - St. Louis police say two officers are on leave after they shot and killed a man who pointed a handgun at them during a chase.
Police say the 25-year-old man was shot Wednesday night on the north side of downtown St. Louis.
The man fled when police tried to stop his vehicle and eventually left the car and fled on foot.
Police say he eventually pointed a handgun at the officers, who opened fire and struck him several times. The man died later at an area hospital.
The two officers were not injured. It is standard procedure to place officers involved in fatal shootings on leave while the investigation continues.
