St. Louis officer who fatally shot teen quits amid DWI probe
ST. LOUIS (AP) — A St. Louis police officer who fatally shot 18-year-old VonDerrit Myers Jr. last fall has resigned after police opened an investigation into whether he was drunk when he crashed his squad car.
Police spokeswoman Schron Jackson told The Associated Press on Sunday that Officer Jason Flanery struck a parked vehicle Saturday morning and left the scene. Jackson says Flanery refused to take a breath-alcohol test when officers went to his house, so the department got a search warrant and drew blood.
Flanery was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and misdemeanor leaving the scene of an accident. She says he was released pending application for warrants and has not yet been charged.
Flanery was not charged in Myers' October 2014 death, which came two months after Michael Brown was fatally shot by an officer in a St. Louis suburb.
