St. Louis Seeks Establishment of Gun Court
ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce and Police Chief Sam Dotson are pushing for establishment of a so-called gun court.
The proposal, outlined in an op-ed piece in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, would funnel all gun crime cases through two judges. The city leaders are asking Missouri lawmakers to approve establishment of the "Armed Offender Docket."
Slay says the goal is to send a message that gun violence will not be tolerated, with violators likely to face higher bond and stronger sentences.
