BERKELEY, Mo. (AP) - A man in St. Louis County is expected to face numerous charges after a standoff with police that forced students to stay inside a nearby school hours after the closing bell.
Police say shots were fired Thursday inside a home in Berkeley. No one was hurt by the gunfire, but the man became angry when a police officer and caseworker arrived at the house. After a scuffle with the officer, the caseworker, the officer and the man's father got out safely but the man was threatening suicide and barricaded himself inside.
Nearby Berkeley Middle School kept students until the man surrendered peacefully at about 5:30 p.m. School normally lets out just before 2 p.m.
