State High School Basketball Tournament Brings Business to Columbia
COLUMBIA - The state high school basketball tournament is bringing more business to Columbia, especially hotels. A hotel manager says there are about 13 competitive hotels in Columbia and while that may seem like a lot, the need for rooms is there.
"When we have events like this, you know, with the state basketball being in town, the Mizzou football games, all of those sporting events, I mean, to be completely honest with you, you can't find a hotel room in columbia at those points," said hotel manager, Brandon Boyer.
Boyer says the events are a big part of their business and he doesn't know how they would survive without Columbia's universities and high schools help of bringing in crowds. Columbia's location doesn't hurt either, being in the center of Missouri brings a lot of the state tournaments like basketball, baseball and the Show-Me state games.
Next week's state youth wrestling tournament will attract a new crowd.
