State Purchases 200 New Snowplows
The wider blades can clear a traffic lane in one pass rather than two. More of the plows will be purchased as older equipment is replaced. For the St. Louis and Kansas City areas, the department also bought wider plows that can be attached to standard trucks. Along with plowing, the Transportation Department puts down 246,000 tons of road salt in an average year. The agency will now be using a computer system to guide the salting, for an expected savings of $2 million a year.
