Ste. Genevieve Co. Inmates Get Their Paper Back
STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. - Inmates in an eastern Missouri jail are getting their newspapers back.
The American Civil Liberties Union says Ste. Genevieve County and former inmate Stanley Schell have settled a lawsuit filed in January. Schell wrote a letter published in the Ste. Genevieve Herald. Shortly after that, he was told local newspapers were no longer allowed in the jail, even though Schell had a prepaid subscription.
Ste. Genevieve County, south of St. Louis, has adopted new policies regarding newspaper subscriptions for inmates as part of the settlement. The policy also includes other written material mailed to inmates and detainees.
