ROLLA - In the weeks leading up to Tuesday's primary election, an endorsement from former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin nearly made the difference in Sarah Steelman's campaign to win the Republican nomination for November's U.S. Senate eletion. Tuesday night, that bid came up short. Steelman finished third behind Todd Akin and John Brunner.
Appearing before family, friends and campaign staff, Steelman announced that she had conceeded the election to Akin at about 10 p.m. Tuesday night.
"Todd Akin is a fine man, and a good conservative," Steelman said. "I know he'll fight hard for the people of this state, and I put faith in him."
Although disappointed with the result, Steelman pledged to do everything she can to help Akin defeat Democratic incumbent Claire McCaskill in November's election.
