Student Falls from Balcony in MU Dorm
COLUMBIA - A 19-year-old MU student went to the hospital early Saturday morning after falling from an interior balcony.
Just before 2 a.m. Saturday, freshman Richard Mehan climbed over the railing of a fifth floor balcony overlooking a fourth floor common area. He was standing on the outside of that railing when he fell one story to the floor below.
First responders found Mehan unconscious upon arrival. He was transported to University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Capt. Brian Weimer, spokesperson for MUPD, says police believe the student had been drinking.
Friends of Mehan who witnessed the drinking refused interviews with KOMU 8 News after Laws Hall staff members advised them not to speak with our reporter.
