Students Donate Unused Meals to Rainbow House
COLUMBIA - Students at MU had the chance Friday to donate uneaten meals to Rainbow House, a shelter for abused and neglected children. The Mizzou Multicultural Issues committee holds what it calls a "swipes" event at the end of every semester to give students the chance to donate unused dinning hall meals. The word "swipe" refers to the electronic meal cards student swipe to enter the cafeterias.
Members from the Missouri Students Association collected non-perishable snacks, food items and beverages at two dining halls.
Lakeisha Williams, the multicultural committee's chair, said the association raised more than 3,200 pounds of food last semester.
"Being able to reach out to those kids and families and help them is something that touches me a lot," Williams said.
MSA will also be collecting food donations Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Emporium at Plaza 900.
The Rainbow House will use to the donations for those in need in mid-Missouri.
