CALIFORNIA, Mo. (AP) - A suburban Kansas City man has been acquitted of killing a woman whose body was found on a mid-Missouri farm a couple months after her 2002 disappearance.
The Jefferson City News-Tribune reported that a Laclede County jury found 39-year-old Joseph Spencer not guilty Thursday. He had been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action for the shooting death of Leslie Gregory of California, Mo.
Gregory was reported missing on Nov. 14, 2002 - two days after she was last seen driving her mother's car. The vehicle and Gregory's body were discovered on Jan. 6, 2003, on a farm about seven miles east of California. At the time, the farm was owned by Spencer's relatives.
Authorities said Spencer was the last person to see Gregory alive.
