Supreme Court Questions Cell Phone Tax
Nearly two dozen cities are challenging the constitutionality of a law enacted last year that bars them from pursuing legal claims of back taxes owed by wireless phone companies. The cell phone companies claim they were exempt from the local taxes, however state law clarifies that cell phone companies must pay the taxes in the future. The law also sets a maximum tax rate that is lower than what some cities previously sought to collect.
