Suspect in custody after kids taken in carjacking
VINITA TERRACE (AP) — A suspect is in custody after two children were briefly taken in a carjacking in north St. Louis County.
Police say the crime happened Thursday morning when a man took a car with a 4-year-old girl and her 2-year-old brother inside. He let the children out about a half-mile away in University City minutes later. They were unharmed.
On Thursday afternoon, an officer spotted the stolen BMW. Two men were inside the car and one fit the description of the suspect. Police are trying to determine if the other man had a role in the crime.
Police say the children's mother left the kids in the car while she went inside to pay for gas. The man, armed with a gun, jumped in and took off.
Someone in University City called police 15 minutes later to report seeing two children wandering down the street.
