Suspect Pleads Not Guilty in Double Homicide
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - A 22-year-old Cape Girardeau man pleaded not guilty in the shooting deaths of a man and woman last week.
Kenneth D. Bell entered his plea Monday in the deaths of 43-year-old Shannon James and 39-year-old Misty Cole. He is charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The two victims were found shot to death Feb. 7 inside their Cape Girardeau apartment.
Kemp's preliminary hearing was scheduled for March 7.
KFVS reports court documents indicate a witness told police the shootings occurred after Bell and James began arguing outside the apartment complex. The witness told police James tried to run into his apartment after seeing Bell with a handgun. The witness then heard several shots fired inside James' apartment.
