GALENA - Two teenagers accused of killing a Michigan couple will remain in secure custody for at least another month while the investigation continues. A Stone County judge ruled Monday that the 16 and 15-year-old will stay in the Greene County facility where they are held, despite arguments from their lawyers that they do not need to be held in a secure facility.
The juveniles are charged with killing 70-year-old Paul Brian Brooks and his wife, 69-year-old Margaret Susan Brooks, last Thursday. The Baldwin, Mich., couple were seasonal residents of the home near Table Rock Lake in southwest Missouri.
The two suspects had escaped earlier from a facility for at-risk youths. The Springfield News-Leader reports authorities will decide whether to try the teens as adults.
