SW Mo. Driver Shot, Killed By Greene County Deputy
REPUBLIC (AP) - A southwest Missouri sheriff's deputy is on administrative leave after fatally shooting a driver who
authorities say tried to fire first.
KOLR-TV reports (http://bit.ly/oKwXdY ) the motorist was identified Wednesday as 46-year-old Tammy Robinette, of Mountain Grove.
The Greene County Sheriff's Department says the deputy stopped a minivan with a suspected drunken driver around 9 p.m. Tuesday near Republic, about 12 miles southwest of Springfield.
Sheriff Jim Arnott says the deputy told the driver to shut off the ignition. The sheriff says the driver pulled a gun and tried to shoot the deputy, but the shot either missed or the gun jammed.
Arnott says the deputy fired multiple times. Robinette died at the scene.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol is helping with the investigation.
