Target 8 - A Hailstorm of Complaints
Holes in her home's siding and a damaged roof added up to thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket expenses for Deb Smith.
"I've got damage from the ground to every apex of my home," she complained. "What I need first thing is to have an accurate adjustment from my insurance company."
Her homeowner's policy is with State Farm Insurance. It estimated Smith's damage at about $4,000, but contractors said the work would cost $18,000.
"I have no trust in this process right now," she added.
"We've had significant damage in the area," said State Farm's Tia Lindell. "Our claims adjusters are really working hard. They'll work with the customer and with the agent to make sure we fulfill our contract as it's been outlined."
Four doors from Smith's home, Scott Beasley's family is going through a similar situation, complete with duct tape along the side of their house because of gaping holes in the siding. His insurance company wants to replace only broken portions, not the entire house.
"I want it back the way it was before the hail hit, you know," said Beasley. "I'm not trying to line my pockets or anything. I just want to get it back the way it was normally."
That's what happened one week after Target 8 contacted Smith's insurance company, which gave her a check to pay for all her home's repairs. Smith doesn't know if it was Target 8's doing, but she's just glad her insurance nightmare is over.
"I don't understand why our first visit with State Farm couldn't be the same as the last vist with State Farm to get the appropriate estimates," she wondered. "It sure could've made it a lot easier."
State Farm won't comment on individual cases.
