Task Force On Alert Online
"The task force will be proactive in creating their own cases as far as looking for enticement cases like Internet chat rooms," explained Det. Mike Lederle.
Task force members say they will focus on crimes against children at first because they are prevalent and important.
"Quite frankly the biggest challenge is the volume of work," Anderson said. "One of the things that I think is surprising about this type of this work is once you identify a suspect when you arrest them, most often that is just the beginning of the case."
The task force says you can protect your family by having specific safety rules for children on the Internet and by talking with your children about strangers on the Internet. Other ways include keeping computers in a common area and monitoring who your children chat with on the Internet. The task force is applying for grants across the state. It's also in need of office space to house its detectives.
If you are concerned about Internet predators or child pornography, contact Detective Anderson at the Boone County Sheriff's Department: (573) 875-TIPS or firstname.lastname@example.org
