Taylor Accepts Invite to National Team Tryouts
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Two-time All-America selection Rhea Taylor has accepted an invitation to the 2011 USA Softball Women's National Team, as announced Wednesday morning by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America. Taylor will join 20 others who accepted invitations and will compete at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., from June 12-17.
The approximately 17 athletes selected to the USA Softball roster will compete in over seven different events in four different countries. Fans in the United States will get four opportunities to see the team in action with three exhibition stops scheduled as well as the World Cup of Softball IV, July 21-25, in Oklahoma City.
Taylor is hitting .374 on the season with four doubles, two triples and two home runs while swiping 22 bases in 24 attempts. She is both Missouri's and the Big 12's all-time batting average leader (.412) and stolen base record holder (163), and is in the top-four all-time in the Big 12 in hits (282) and runs scored (210).
The Tiger senior and the rest of the Missouri squad will be in action today in a doubleheader against Evansville, beginning at 4 p.m. CT.
