Team USA Pitches Chelsea Thomas to Win Against Venezuela

COLUMBIA - Mizzou's Chelsea Thomas was on the mound for Team USA on Sunday night in the first game of the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship series against Venezuela. Thomas threw for 5 innings against 19 batters, striking out 7 while only allowing 3 hits and 1 walk.

In the top of the 5th inning, Ashley Holocombe advanced to first after being hit by a pitch. Mizzou's Rhea Taylor came into the game to run for Holocombe was scored the first run for Team USA after Taylor Hoagland's double. Team USA went on to score five more runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to give them a 8-0 win against Venezuela.

Team USA will play Team Canada on Monday, Team Japan & Team Venezuela again on Tuesday, Team Australia on Wednesday and Team Canada on Thursday.
