Technology-based toys among highest-selling of holiday season
COLUMBIA - With each new generation of technology, it seems the list of potential holiday gifts grows.
Toys promoting Star Wars: The Force Awakens are among the most popular gifts; the seventh installment in the sci-fi franchise will debut in theaters across the country a week before Christmas.
A real-life version of the character BB-8 is getting a lot of attention.
The droid is brought to life via Bluetooth through an app and can be moved around and interact with the user.
"He is probably the hottest-selling toy," RadioShack manager April Brewer said. "I've gone through two batches full so far."
Brewer said she has seen the toy listed for as much as $500 on eBay.
Drones for casual use such as film and photography are also very popular.
The Parrot Bebop drone is one of the most popular on the market due to its size and weight, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The RIF6 Cube Projector is also a notable item which can connect to smart phones and displays images up to 120 inches.
