Teenager Charged with Second-Degree Murder
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Jackson County prosecutor's office has filed charges in the death of a Kansas City teenager who was gunned down hours after his high school graduation.
Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said Wednesday that her office has charged 19-year-old Terry C. Smith with second-degree murder and two other felonies in the May 22 death of 18-year-old Cortez Williams. Baker said in a news release that Williams was shot to death as he sat in his vehicle.
Williams had attended his high school graduation from Paseo Academy just hours before he was killed.
Baker said her office is seeking a $500,000 bond. Online court records don't list a lawyer for Smith.
