Teenager taken into custody in relation to fatal Oakland Road crash
COLUMBIA — Columbia Police have a teenager in custody on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter in relation to a fatal crash involving a pedestrian.
The crash occurred on July 10 around noon on Oakland Gravel Road, just north of Edris Drive, as three people, including a 9-year-old juvenile, were crossing the road. While they were in the road, the 16-year-old driver hit the child with the front of her car.
The 9-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital and later died. She was later identified as Kimberlynn Elizabeth Bartlett, of Kirksville.
Alcohol or drug impairment is not believed to be a factor in the accident. Since this involves a juvenile no further information will be released and this case is being turned over to the Boone County Juvenile Office.
