The Issuing of Concealed Weapons Permits May Change
JEFFERSON CITY - A new bill proposed by the Missouri Senate would put local sheriffs in charge of all aspects of issuing concealed weapon permits, instead of the Department of Revenues.
Right now, the Department of Revenues is in charge of issuing concealed weapon permit ID's, while local sheriff's handle applications and background checks.
However, under the new plan, sheriff's would be put in charge of issuing ID's as well.
2 Million dollars would go to local sheriffs to fund the concealed gun permits.
The bill is a response to Government Departments scanning licenses and sharing other personal information earlier this year.
Senator Schaefer said he is sending a message to some state agencies by cutting their funding until he gets more answers on the scandal surrounding some departments scanning Missourians personal information.
