JEFFERSON CITY - Three people went to the hospital Wednesday night after a broken down car triggered a chain reaction crash.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said around 6:30 p.m. a man driving an El Camino had mechanical issues while crossing the Missouri River Bridge on Highway 54/63 West.

The car ended up stopped on the bridge in the far-right lane, and then the next car, a Honda Fit, stopped behind it. Finally, another car, a Ford Focus, hit the back of the Fit, pushing the three cars together.

The driver of the Honda Fit went to the hospital in an ambulance; the other two drivers went to the hospital in personal cars. MSHP described all three drivers' injuries as minor. A passenger in the El Camino was uninjured.

Bridge traffic was restricted to one lane for about a half hour while emergency responders worked. All three vehicles had extensive damage and had to be towed.
