MARSHALL, Mo. -- Three Missouri Valley College Lady Viking softball student-athletes have been named to the Heart of America Athletic Conference all-conference team for their play during the 2013 season. Sophomore Outfielder Lisa Luna was named as a second team all-conference player, Senior Pitcher Kim Lopez and Junior Shortstop Pricilla Garcia were named honorable mention athletes.
Luna led the team in batting average, hitting .349. She also led the NAIA in triples per game and placed eighth in total triples hitting six this season.
Lopez led the pitching staff in wins this season, earning seven and led with a 4.38 ERA in 104 innings pitched. Lopez was also a 2012 all-conference softball selection.
Garcia finished the regular season as the team leader in at-bats, hits and stolen bases. She led the team in defensive assists, ranking third in the HAAC in assists per game with 2.34.
"These three deserve this recognition for their play this season," says Head Softball Coach Daniel Allen. "All three have been key parts to our season, and I am glad they received this honor."
The Lady Vikings finished the regular season with a 12-20 overall record and 6-12 mark in HAAC play. MVC will play MidAmerica Nazarene University in the first round of the HAAC Postseason Tournament this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Blue Valle Rec Complex in Overland Park, Kan.

BOONE COUNTY - An early morning fire broke out in a house at 6399 Old Village Road Thursday.
Battalion Chief Gale Blomenkamp of the Boone County Fire Protection District said a couch caught fire in the living room, causing smoke and heat damage throughout the room. The woman living there and her two dogs were able to escape without injury.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
