Tigers baseball wins rematch with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - After a walk-off win over Sam Houston State the night before, the Tigers needed no late game heroics to down Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday night in a 5-1 victory. This win comes after the Islanders gave Missouri (6-1) their first loss of the season in a 3-2 loss Thursday night.
The scoring opened up in the first inning with Ryan Howard hitting a two-run double to score Jake Ring and Brett Peel for his fifth and sixth RBI of the year, giving Mizzou an early 2-0 lead of Texas A&M-CC.
One day removed from his first career home run, a walk-off to beat Sam Houston State, Brett Bond hit his second career home run over the left field wall to extend the Tigers lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth.
The Islanders (5-1) were held in check for the majority of the game due to a great outing for Tiger Freshman Tanner Houck (2-0), who pitched six shutout innings saturday night and struck out five batters in his second career start for MU. Houck had a no hitter into the sixth before a Casey Thomas single put the Islanders in the hit column.
Senior Casey Munson added some insurance for his freshman pitcher with a two-run homer to make it 5-0 Mizzou in the top of the seventh.
Texas A&M-CC finally got on the scoreboard with Kyle Danford ripping a solo home run to end Houck's shutout. Houck would sit down the next two before a two-out single ended his night. Junior Austin Tribby came in from the bullpen to get the final out of the inning.
After Tribby let two men on in the eighth, Closer Breckin Williams finished the night by setting down the final four batters of the game for his third save of the year, and the Tigers the 5-1 victory.
Missouri will face Purdue Sunday at 11 a.m. to close out the Kelberg Bank College Classic.
