Tips Sought in Mo. Couple's April 2011 Slayings
SPRINGFIELD (AP) - A southwest Missouri sheriff is asking the public for tips to help solve the fatal stabbings of an elderly couple one year ago.
Greene County Sheriff Jim Arnott spoke Wednesday about the investigation into the killings of Donald and Helen Willingham at their home near Springfield on April 25, 2011.
The 80-year-old wife called police shortly before 6 a.m. that day saying her 81-year-old husband was struggling with an intruder. The Willinghams were dead when officers arrived minutes later.
KYTV reports (http://bit.ly/IoYtHV ) that Arnott said two people who were questioned early in the investigation were released last summer for lack of evidence.
The sheriff says he believes people who know the killer's identity are reluctant to talk. There's a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
