Today's Talk: Pay to park via app in downtown Columbia
COLUMBIA - Columbia Public Works said Monday a new app debuting in downtown Columbia would allow drivers to pay for parking on their smartphones.
The Parkmobile app debuted Monday at select meters downtown, according to public works. The app allows drivers parking on 9th street between University and Broadway and on Broadway between 8th Street and 10th Street to pay on their phones, without physically swiping a card or depositing money.
Public works said each parkmobile-enabled meter would have bright green stickers with a unique four-digit parking zone number.
Drivers can also add time to their meter remotely from the app, and set notifications of remaining time on the meter.
The meters could still be used with a credit card or coins, if drivers don't want to use the Parkmobile app.
