Toys for Tots hosts first charity concert
JEFFERSON CITY — People from all over mid-Missouri gathered at the Miller Performing Arts Center Saturday to listen to local musicians and raise money for Toys for Tots.
This is the event's first year.
The Event Coordinator Harold Faughn said for every ticket bought, it's helping three children receive a toy for Christmas.
He said the Toys for Tots season is normally in October, November and December, but they are getting a head start on raising money so more children are able to receive gifts during the 2017 holiday season.
Noren Access, Sweet Adelines, David Baker and Sylvia Ferguson were some of the acts scheduled to perform for the charity event. Each of the acts are local and volunteered to perform for the event.
Ferguson said performing on behalf of Toys for Tots is something she couldn't have turned down.
"There are so many kids out there that actually need love and support," she said. "One way to show a child love is to give them a toy to hold on to."
Another major group scheduled to perform is an acapella group called Six. The group, composed of six brothers, headlines the charity concert.
Faughn said all the proceeds made from ticket sales for the charity concert will go directly to Toys for Tots.
