Dave Cross makes the Hinkson Creek trail a weekly routine.
"On this trail, I will use this about three to four times a week during the spring summer and fall," Cross said.
The city of Columbia wants to expand and connect 6 different trails. The federal surface transportation program looks at each proposal and issues grant money through MODOT.-Some of Columbia's six projects include the Hinkson Creek trail, Bear Creek trail and the Hominy Branch trail.
If it's approved the Hinkson Creek Trail will connect to Rock Hill Park. The maximum amount of enhancement money spent on any project in $500, 000.
Once approved a project will come to life quickly.
"If we get the grants, we can spend some of the city money earlier on the up-front end, to kind of stoke the projects, get them going quicker and use the federal money as it comes in to do more of the construction," said Bike Ped Manager Ted Curtis.
Next Monday the City Council will vote on which proposal it will submit for federal enhancement money.
