Truthful Theives in Fayette
Police know how the break in occurred. But there's a twist in the story and police are still without the who.
Some customers at the C and R Market in Fayette didn't notice something missing along the front wall. Tuesday morning, burglars stole the store's ATM.
"They took the ATM out, used a dolly, wheeled it out the back, put it in the truck and left with it," explained Fayette Police Chief Bryan Kunze.
The manager of the market, who would not appear on camera, said security cameras caught one thief in the act, but he wore all black and a ski mask, and could not be identified.
The burglars stole a pick-up truck and brought it to the back drive way of the C and R Market. They then used the truck as a tool to bash in the garage door and enter the building. Damage to the garage and pieces of glass from the truck's tail light can be seen outside the store. After using the truck, the burglars did something unexpected.
"They took the truck back to the house where it was stolen from, and put it back in the garage."
They returned the truck, but kept the ATM's money, which police say is between $600 and $1,000.Police found pieces of the missing ATM at a nearby lake.
