COLUMBIA - Columbia joins cities from all over the world Thursday hosting a Twitter festival, or "Twestival." The event connects the online twitter community offline for one evening to raise money for a local service. The Columbia Twestival will give 100 percent of its proceeds to Boone County Family Resources. The event is run by volunteers and the food and auction items are donated.

Twestival is the largest grassroots social media fundraising initiative. In 2009, the global event raised $1.2 million for 137 nonprofit groups.

Columbia's Twestvial is being held at the Orr Street Studios in downtown Columbia from 6pm-9pm.
