Two Sirens Not Working Following September Thunderstorm
JEFFERSON CITY - Jefferson City Police report two warning sirens are not working Friday following a September thunderstorm.
Captain Doug Shoemaker said the Jefferson City Emergency Operations Center tested the sirens across the Jefferson City and Cole County area.
The Emergency Operations Center discovered two sirens do not work and the company who sold the city the sirens determined the sirens had severe damage consistent with a lightning strike.
One siren is on Militia Drive and the other is next to the new Jefferson City Fire Station under construction on Missouri Highway 179.
Captain Shoemaker said the damage probably resulted from a thunderstorm on September 8. The storm was three days after the last siren test. Captain Shoemaker said the department doesn't know how long the sirens will be out of service because it is getting damage estimates.
