Two teenagers drown in Meramec River
BALLWIN (AP) — Two teenagers have drowned in the Meramec River at a state park in St. Louis County.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the teens' bodies were found late Saturday night in the Meramec River at Castlewood State Park a few hours after they went for a swim in an area where swimming is prohibited.
St. Louis County Police identified the victims as 18-year-old Henry Manu and 17-year-old Samuel Neal. Both were from St. Louis.
Mike Thiemann, spokesman for the Metro West Fire Protection District, says crews found the bodies in an area about 20 feet deep.
He says that section of the river has deep pools and has been the scene of "frequent drownings." He says a sign there warns: "People drown here! Don't be the next one."
