U City Council Pulls Plan to Limit Public Input
UNIVERSITY CITY (AP) - Elected leaders in the St. Louis suburb of University City have pulled a plan to limit public input at council meetings.
The council was considering whether to only allow citizen comment at the end of city meetings, after votes are taken. KSDK-TV reports that several hundred residents packed a special council meeting Monday night to oppose the proposal.
Some residents booed their council. Others threatened to pursue a recall of Mayor Shelley Welsch and some of her colleagues
The contentious council session comes amid rising tensions over the suspensions of six University City firefighters for appearing in uniform in campaign ads supporting council candidates in the April municipal election.
