UNIVERSITY CITY (AP) - The Delmar Loop entertainment district in the St. Louis suburb of University City is about to come under closer scrutiny.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the University City Council voted Monday to add two more surveillance cameras to those installed over the summer.
Several cameras now monitor activity on the Loop as part of an effort to deter crime. The cameras were first installed because groups of unruly young people were sometimes gathering in the Loop and disrupting other activities such as dining at sidewalk cafes. The city also began a 9 p.m. curfew for those under 17.
Two councilmen requested $35,500 for the two additional cameras and to make other enhancements to the city's existing camera system.
