U.S. Surgeon General Releases Report on Tobacco Use Among Youth
COLUMBIA - The U.S. Surgeon General released a new report on tobacco use among the nation's youth.
One of the most notable findings was that nearly one in four high school seniors smokes. Three thousand eight hundred kids pick up the habit every day.
U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin says that 99 percent of smokers begin before the age of 25.
The youth smoking rate had been declining since the late 90's but slowed in recent years.
The report suggests creating more smoke-free laws and tobacco prevention programs.
