United Way Holds Poverty Conference
COLUMBIA - The Heart of Missouri United way hosted a "Bridges Out of Poverty" workshop Friday as part of its "Move to Community Impact" campaign. The goal of the workshop was to teach participants the tools needed to get out of poverty and was based off of the book "Bridges Out of Poverty" written by author Ruby Payne.
Commerce Bank and State Farm sponsored the workshop, allowing 600 people to attend for free. Many of the guests were local teachers looking to further their understanding of people from all walks of life in order to better serve the community.
Heart of Missouri United Way Executive Director Tim Rich said he hopes this will only be the first in a number of presentations from the United Way. For more information you can go to their website here.
