University Hospital's New Look
Jeff Hoelscher of University Hospital said it's time.
"Because of its age and because of our increasing numbers of patients that we treat not only here locally but throughout the state, it's time to rebuild the hospital," Hoelscher said.
In 2009 the hospital will open a new and bigger parking garage. Later that year it'll open a new orthopedic institute. And in 2010, a new surgery tower will open where the old parking garage currently stands.
Finally in Phase Three, by 2020, the entire facility will be rebuilt.
"The expansion not just going to serve our patients, but it's also going to be a benefit to medical students and it's going to be a benefit to the residents throughout the state of Missouri," Hoelscher said.
University Hospital is adding a new service. Patients can drive up to the front door of the hospital or to the urgent care facility and be treated to valet parking service. Those at the hospital believe it will make things less confusing as construction really gets going - and is a definite benefit in the heat.
