COLUMBIA - This week the University of Missouri is welcoming special guests and events to celebrate "One Mizzou." It is a week of celebrating diversity on the campus.
Monday night at the Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center around 70 people got together for a diversity rally, where they brought attention to why "One Mizzou" exists. In 2010, two students scattered cotton balls outside the center. In 2011, there was another hate crime where a racial slur was spray painted on the ground in front of a residence hall.
This week is dedicated to bringing the community together and a special guest talked Monday about this. Dr. Maya Angelou, poet, educator, and civic leader, spoke at the Missouri Theatre.
Throughout the week, there will be more activities to create a more inclusive campus community.
