COLUMBIA, Mo. - University of Missouri Provost Brian Foster announced Friday that Jane Lago, former managing editor of the Unversity of Missouri Press, has been named as consulting director for the Press, starting October 22.
"Jane Lago is a long-term Press employee who brings a great deal of experience and expertise to the Press," Foster said. "Jane will help us through this transition as we commence our national search for a permanent director for the Press."
Lago worked at the Press for her entire 33-year career prior to retiring in 2008. While at the Press, she held several positions including editorial assistant, assistant editor, editor, senior editor and managing editor.
"I'm looking forward to returning to the Press and want to focus on fundraising, taking advantage of the support that has been publicly displayed for the Press over the last several months," Lago said. "I'll be working closely with Clair Willcox and the other Press employees as we focus on getting the Press back up to speed. One of my tasks will be to review and analyze what the Press most needs to move forward."
As managing editor of the Press for 19 years, Lago was responsible for scheduling and overseeing copy-editing for all manuscripts published by the press. She worked with authors of more than 50 manuscripts per year and trained and assigned work to five full-time editorial employees and students. Lago will remain with the Press until a permanent director is hired.
