COLUMBIA - A 13-year-old girl has died following an attempted kidnapping and rollover crash on I-70 Tuesday afternoon.

Shianna Mays, 13, was flown by helicopter to a hospital Tuesday. She was one of five people in a vehicle that was involved in a crash near mile marker 117 on I-70 at approximately 4:25 p.m. Columbia Police announced she died Friday as a result of her injuries sustained in the crash.

Police say Shianna Mays and her siblings Adrianna Mays, 10, and Tyler Mays, 9, were taken from a residence in the 1700 block of Spiros Drive prior to the crash.

The crash happened at the Route J exit west of Columbia. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Demetres Washington tried to pass another vehicle, but collided instead. The impact caused Washington's car to hit a guardrail and flip.

Washington, 33, and two others in the vehicle - including 22-year-old Mackenzie Nakole Quiovers, who gave the false name of “Nia Boldridge.”- were seriously injured in the crash.

While being treated at a local hospital, warrants were issued for Washington and Quiovers for three counts of first degree felony kidnapping. It was not until after the arrest that detectives received information Quiovers was using a false name.

Washington allegedly used the promise of gifts to get the children into her car. One witness said Washington tried to force a fourth person in the car, but that person was able to escape.

Authorities say Quiovers started driving away from the scene, but traded places with Washington in the area of Rangeline Street and I-70. While they were stopped, someone who had been following them since the alleged abduction tried to get the children out of the car, but couldn't because the doors were locked.

Court documents said Washington then started driving erratically until she hit the second vehicle. That driver was not hurt.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Columbia Police Department are currently investigating the circumstances of these incidents.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, who has been investigating the traffic crash, is now investigating this as a fatality crash due to the death of Shianna Mays. The Columbia Police Department is investigating the kidnapping.

Additional charges are possible once the investigations are completed.

As of Friday at 3:30, no additional information is available on the condition of Washington, or the other two children involved in the crash.
